Renewable Energy In 2020

Two decades ago the thought of powering our homes and businesses with wind drafts and sun beams seemed only another dream for future generations. But as 2020 rolls around, the world has rapidly brought this reality into fruition. Now about 1/4 of the globe’s energy comes from these renewable sources.

United States

The U.S generates 11% of its energy from renewable sources with wind and hydroelectric taking the largest shares, about 80%, of the total production. Renewable energy is also the fastest-growing energy source in the United States, increasing 100 percent from 2000 to 2018. Solar generation is projected to climb from 11 percent of total U.S. renewable generation in 2017 to 48 percent by 2050, making it the fastest-growing electricity source.

Europe

Europe is the world leader in sustainable energy, providing 18.9% of the European Union’s energy needs. But no country in Europe is more dedicated to dropping dependence on fossil fuels then Germany. Germany currently has a goal to reach 100% renewable energy production by 2050. So far they don’t seem to be far off, as they already generate 52% of their electricity from clean power.

China

China also has taken advantage, making 60% of the world’s panels according to the (IEA) International Energy Agency. Not only are they producers, but the Chinese also use solar themselves. The IEA expects 36 percent to 40 percent of world-wide growth in solar and wind energy to come from China in the next five years. China right now generates 38.3% of its power capacity from renewable energy and has high expectations to increase it further in the near future.

Indeed this dream is already happening and the possibilities now seem endless. Solar cars, planes, roads and off shore windmills are already in use. Not only energy companies can take advantage of this cheap and clean energy, but now homeowners are in the perfect position to make use of federal and state tax credits paying homeowners and businesses to utilize renewable technology.
