Energy Rebates For Insulation

In 2020, insulation remains the primary focus for an energy efficient home. The EPA estimates homeowners can save an average of 11% on total energy bills by air sealing their homes and adding insulation to the attic, floors, and other high spaces. Federal tax credits also apply for this important home addition.

Rebate Rate: Not including installation, insulation costs are covered by 10% up to $500.

Eligibility:
Most usual insulation products are eligible, including rigid boards, expanding spray, pour in-place, rolls, batts, and blow-in fibers. The following air seal products are also counted, as long as they have a Manufacturers Certification Statement (A signed certification by the manufacturer that their product is eligible for tax rebates):

  • House wrap
  • Spray foam in a can, designed to air seal
  • Caulk designed to air seal
  • Weather stripping

Timeline:
Since extended in 2017, this federal tax credit is set to expire on December 31, 2020. Check out the list of state rebates on the right panel to see if you also qualify for any state tax credits.
