Summary: As part of their Energy$olutions programs, Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), and its subsidiaries, Maui Electric Company, Ltd. (MECO), and Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. (HELCO), provide rebates for high-efficiency water heaters and heat pump water heaters for replacements of existing residential systems. High-efficiency water heater rebates vary based on tank size. In order to be eligible for this rebate, residents must live in their homes year round and purchase a program approved model. Interested customers can view a list of retailers selling eligible models on the program website, fill out the rebate application, and call an approved contractor. If program funds are available, the contractor will deduct the rebate amount from the installed cost of a solar system. HECO will pay $1,000 towards the cost of a solar system. Also, customers can get a $3 monthly credit on your electric bill. HECO will install a free EnergyScout that could temporarily turn a water heater off during system emergencies. It is estimated that the water heater would not be interrupted for more than an hour at a time. |
