Small Wind Generators

There is a lot written these days about small wind generators, most doesn’t really help you decide if it is right for you. If you live in an area where there is very little wind year round it may not be worth the trouble. You may wish to explore other types of energy systems like solar. If you have abundant wind like in south TX, it would be a good choice as you would definitely stand to pay for your system in energy saving over a very short period of time.

If you have a good stream running through your property you may consider a hydro electric system. No day there is much to choose from and just because wind is getting so much attention in the media and government doesn’t mean it would be the best choice for you.

Some small generators are geared for low wind use but are they cost effective enough? You can find out how much energy, kilowatts you use monthly and the cost, then so some simple math to figure out how long it would take for one of these small wind generators to pay for its self.

If it takes longer than 5 or 6 years to pay for the generator and all that goes with it and its life span is gives you only a few years at most past that time you may want to pass on it unless your motives are for saving the environment rather than saving money on energy. It all depends on what you are trying to do and what is motivating you to act.
